Orderly and repetitive movement of a continuously rotating electric motor produces complex and unpredictable behaviour through the simple addition of an eccentric (off center) weight. It is an open system which runs amok.

Cycle is assembled from discarded bicycle wheels bolted together with threaded rod. The wheels sit upright on the floor. On one side, an electric motor is affixed to the center of a wheel. A hammer or other weight is clamped to the shaft of the motor and hangs to just above the floor. A jar of water is tied to a rod extending from the center of the other wheel, as a counterbalance. The piece is ballasted by its battery, mounted between the bottoms of the two wheels.

When activated the motor rotates the hammer, the weight of which causes the piece to careen about unpredictably. The machine is left to go where it will for the course of the exhibition. Occasionally it tips over and becomes stuck swinging about in one spot. It is deactivated at night and the battery recharged.
